Aya Nakamura at the Stade de France: the artist lights up the stage and sets fire to a racist banner

It was only to be expected that Aya Nakamura would make headlines at her concert on Friday 29th of May 2026. This marked the start of three shows over three consecutive evenings at the Stade de France. Enough to make the end of May a historic occasion.

The world’s most-streamed French-speaking artist reminded the media – who had torn her down with headlines each more degrading than the last – that she holds a status that has earned her the nickname ‘Queen of France’.

And with good reason: her three concerts were, of course, quickly sold out; her catalogue has racked up over seven billion streams worldwide, according to Live Nation; and contrary to what one might think, she runs her own record label.

The icing on the cake was the racist slogan that a fringe identitarian group had reserved for her on a banner unfurled on 9th of March 2024 to denigrate her performance at the Olympic Games: ‘No way, Aya, this is Paris, not the market in Bamako’ – which Aya Nakamura recreated and set alight with a flamethrower.
